Part II. Ethnic cleanser

Chapter 37 Retired General "Shy-Rock" (2)

There remained one big problem. It was the sovereignty of Jerusalem and its surrounding area. For the Jews, it was their homeland promised by Yahweh, the supreme existence. They were expelled from Jerusalem against their will two thousand years ago. It was called "Diaspora". The British government promised to rebuild the Jewish homeland in exchange for financial assistance for the war against Germany. The Arabs, on the other hand, had been living in the Jerusalem region since prehistoric era. Their dream was to create their own nation state independent from the Ottoman Turks. Due to the contribution to the victory of World War I by cooperating with Britain, Palestinians considered it a proper right to establish Palestinian state.

U.K. promised to Jews and Arabs respectively. But its promises entirely contradicted each other. The result came out after World War I. Jews and Arabs launched independence movements. The disorder took place in the whole area of Jerusalem. Desperate U.K. made whole area to be Mandate and tried to suppress both Jews and Arabs. At that time, U.K. which had vast colonies in Asia like India and the Malay Peninsula needed the Jerusalem and the Suez Canal, as a transit point for colonial operations.

The father of Shy-Rock sometime fought against the Arabs and at other times against the British colonial government to establish the Jewish state, Israel. It looked like civil war. The fighting was more chaotic since Palestine was a British mandate and not an authorized state. The strongest one was a winner. For the Jews, the 2,000-years long dream to rebuild their homeland will come to an end if they lose the civil war. They didn't hesitate to act as terrorists.

Israel declared its independence in 1948, when Shy-Rock was 9 years old. He could clearly remember how his father reacted. His father embraced the son and showed the joy all over his body. However, their joy was short-lived when neighboring Arab countries flooded into the new state, Israel. It was the so-called First Middle East War, and the Jews called it the War of Independence.

Goddess of victory was with Jews who fought tooth and nail. The Western ally of Israel especially the United States strongly supported Israel both materially and spiritually. The Arab side was defeated because it not only lacked the assistance of U.S.S.R., but also suffered from internal disorder. At that time, the U.S.S.R. had to put their priority to the reconstruction of their own state after World War II. They could hardly help the Arabs.

Generally speaking, outnumbered one could defeat rival. But as far as the Middle East wars were concerned, it was false. The Arabs were utterly defeated. Arabs called the war "Nakba" (Catastrophe). After that, the Arabs tried to revenge Jews through several Middle East wars, but they could not get victory at all.
