Chapter 55 Devil’s
invention (3)
He
joined the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C., where he started
the research study on influenza virus.
Once
influenza epidemic took place, the epidemic overcame by vaccines against it.
However, the virus evolved day by day. One day it transformed into a new virus
that was resistant to vaccines, and it would be raging again. Then, medical
science would develop new vaccines. Virus would evolve following new vaccines. It
looked like vicious circle.
But
without new vaccines and no matter how the virus spread widely, it gradually
weakened reproductive power due to the resistance of the human body itself.
Virus went into a long sleep called the incubation period. The virus constantly
evolved in response to changes in the external world, too.
Dr.
Girgo tried to unravel the secrets of the virus at the genetic level. He
believed that the results of his experiment could be applied to the genetic
manipulation of Jews to transform them into the most powerful humankind. It was
surely the most powerful life on earth.
However, there were many types of Jews such as; Ashkenazim from Europe, Mizraphim from the Islamic world, Sephardim from the Iberian Peninsula, etc. Dr. Girgo himself was a Russian Jews newly emigrated to Israel in 20th century. Furthermore, research had to cover a wide variety of Jews including black-skinned Ethiopian Jews who were believed to be descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes.
He
wondered which Jews should be the proper subject. After prudent conclusion, Dr.
Girgo focused on Ashkenazim. Among Jews, Ashkenazim was an elite group in
Israel. Nevertheless, the population growth rate of Ashkenazim was lower than
others. If measures to increase Ashkenazim by genetic means were taken place,
it would be highly appreciated by the government executives.
He
concluded and continued his research.
