Chapter 46 Inner enemy of
Jewish state (2)
Israel
government launched operations to call back to their homeland the Jews who were
still suffering from poverty and discrimination at every corner of the world. It
covered the people who were supposedly of Jewish descent according to legend. One
of operations was called "Operation Solomon".
The story of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba could be read in the Old Testament. In 980 BC, Queen Makeda, who ruled Sheba, now called Ethiopia, paid tribute to King Solomon of ancient kingdom of Israel. Israel was more than 3,000 kilometers away from Sheba. During the stay of Queen Makeda there, King Solomon was fascinated by the beauty of Queen Makeda. So, he cheated the Queen and took her into the bed. Pregnant queen returned home and got one boy. Later, Sheba changed its name to the Ethiopian Empire. The empire survived until the end of the 20th century. The descendants of Queen Makeda continued to live quietly in history as one of the "lost twelve tribes" of Jewish descendants.
In
1974, the Ethiopian Revolution was broken out. The last emperor, Haile Selassie
I, was dethroned and a military government grabbed the power. The situation in
the country was kept unstable due to civil war. In 1990, Ethiopia was scattered
into the piece by local military powers. The people suffered from poverty. Particularly,
the Jewish descendants were thrown into extreme poverty.
It
was the God willing to rescue the Jews in Ethiopia for Israel. In May 1991,
taking advantage of the turmoil in Ethiopia, Israel sent many jumbo jets to the
airport in Addis Ababa to transfer the refugees from Ethiopia to Israel.
Operation kept 36 hours. During that period, the number of people who evacuated
from Ethiopia reached fourteen thousand. It was an unprecedented big operation to
shuttle between Israel and Ethiopia using many jumbo jets.
The
African Jews in Israel increased to sixty thousand nowadays.
