Chapter 45 Inner enemy of
Jewish state (1)
<We may be
terminated by the enemy inside Israel. >
Lately,
Shy-Rock had been feared seriously.
Four
Middle East wars including War of Independence in 1949 resulted in the
overwhelming victory against neighboring Arab countries. Israel also defeated
the Palestinians completely through that period. Nevertheless, Israel was still
fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and its allied Iran. Israel showed no
mercy to the enemies who advocated to sink Israel into the Mediterranean Sea
and erased from world map.
The
inner enemy which veteran Shy-Rock feared was the Palestinian Arabs residing in
Israel. The Third Middle East War in 1967 ended in just six days thanks to a
successful Israeli surprise attack. Israel occupied the West Bank of the Jordan
River, Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula. Before the war West Bank was ruled
by Jordan and the Sinai Peninsula was an inherent territory of Egypt.
In
any war, the expansion of territory meant the victory. Many Palestine Arabs
were lived in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for several hundreds of years.
Some of Palestinians escaped the war and became refugees in neighboring
countries such as Jordan and Lebanon. Some of them migrated to Gulf countries like
Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, where oil boom begun to burst.
However,
many of Palestinians did not leave the homeland. They held their breath and
waited for the fire to pass overhead. Through its post-war occupation period,
Israel held a large number of Palestinian Arabs within its territory.
Usually,
Arabs got many children. Population growth of Palestinian Arab outstripped that
of Jews. The population balance between Jews and Arabs in Israel began to tip
slightly in favor of the Arabs.
In
order to restore the population balance, Israel called on all the Jews in the
world to migrate to Israel. The Israeli government sought out people from all
over the world who were recognized to have a trace of Jewish blood. Israel made
every effort to invite the foreign Jews.
Jews
in the developed Western countries did not emigrate to Israel at the expense of
their current affluent lifestyle. Only young and religious American-born Jews
rushed to the kibbutz, intentional community, driven by religious euphoria. But
the number of migrants was not so many. They never affected the balance between
the Jews and Arabs.
