Part I. Israel bombs a nuclear plant in Iran
Chapter 24. U.S. military embarks on (2)
The
turmoil in the Persian Gulf region was further escalated by the US containment
policy of Iran, which was triggered by the alleged nuclear development in Iran.
It was the US logic that once Iran took lead in nuclear development in the
region, the entire Middle East would become unstable and Iranian nuclear
weapons might be smuggled to Islamic terrorist organizations in the future.
But
the U.S. vital interest was Israeli security. For the United States, Israel
itself was located far from U.S. where was geographically on the opposite side
of the world beyond the Atlantic Ocean. And Israel was not so much economic
significance for U.S. Nevertheless, the United States supported Israel because
politicians were manipulated by the pressure of the Israeli lobby. And the
Christian right-wing had special feelings for the sanctuary Jerusalem in Israel.
Furthermore, the 9/11 attacks by Arab terrorist ignited the Islamophobia within
U.S. citizen. Israel and its U.S. lobbyists made use of such phenomena utmost.
Israeli
right-wing government and military always claimed that "Kill enemy before
being killed by them!" or "Offense is the best defense". They
became more and more tough when Iran constructed additional nuclear facilities.
They have previously bombed Osirak nuclear power plant in Iraq and alleged
nuclear facility in Syria. Israel did not hesitate attack the enemy whenever
its security was threatened. It was not a matter of the level whether the
threat was obvious or not. It was like the sixth sense that whether they felt
the threat or not.
Such
sixth sense of the Israeli right-wing government was quite different from those
living in a peaceful world like the Japanese. Israelis have coexisted with
threats for over 60 years since their founding. They never accepted the
ordinary threat or peace theory. The correct response to someone who might
attack in the near future was to kill them before been killed by them. In such circumstance,
their own violence was the right one and enemy’s violence was the wrong one to
be defeated.
Now
Iran was the enemy. Reckless hardliners in Israel. Many of the US parliamentarians.
And right-wing religious leaders. They unanimously supported the violence.
Washington was no longer able to hold them back.
